Oak Grove Abbey is located in downtown Austin within historic Old Enfield, about 2 miles from the University of Texas campus.
We are within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, shopping, and UT Shuttle and Capital Metro bus stops.
The home was originally built in 1937 and has been restored to meet the needs of the Abbey. There are 6 bedrooms & 4 bathrooms with common kitchen, living, & dining areas. Features also include a large courtyard, deck, & solarium. We also have a band rehearsal / movie viewing space that was converted from the garage.
Common rhythms are essential to the Oak Grove way of life.
We begin each weekday at 7:30 with morning prayer. This consists of a Celtic liturgy, a Psalm, a Scripture reading, a Gospel reading and personal intercession for others.
We have a rotating cooking calendar, so that each person agrees to cook a certain amount of meals each month. The cook is also responsible for honoring any notable saints or feast days as part of the meal.
When occassion permits, we observe an evening compline prayer at 8:00 p.m.
On Sunday evenings we come to the Table for an extended worship gathering. This includes liturgical prayer, lectionary Scripture readings, giving to a common purse, telling stories from our week, intercession for one another, and Eucharist.
We also make a regular habit out of entertaining guests and throwing parties for the glory of God!
